Speech and Drama
Speech and Drama classes include group-acted scenes, mime, drama confidence-building games and choral speaking.
Choral speaking helps to instil a love of verse and poetry and the enjoyment of working as a team. Younger pupils learn to enjoy performing in a relaxed and comfortable environment, which helps to build confidence and gives them the opportunity to pursue this subject further if they show an interest. Children can enter for exams if they wish, and lessons cover a wide range of literary periods and stage techniques.
Ballet lessons help children to grow in confidence as they learn to express themselves through dance and movement.
In Reception, lessons provide an introduction to ballet for boys and girls. These classes are taught in a way that young children can relate to using movement, mime, props, familiar ballet stories and songs. From here they can progress to a more structured traditional class.
In Years 1 & 2 lessons offer the children the opportunity to gain a good fundamental technique in preparation for their first ballet exam which can be taken privately if they wish. In class the children are working towards the ISTD Primary grade.
