Community Action & Service

At Windlesham, all pupils are expected to fully immerse themselves into the school’s community and give back not just to the school, but to the wider community surrounding them as well.

Collaborations with local organisations are developed to create mutually beneficial partnerships. Work within the community is an important part of our pupils’ involvement and is seen as a vital part of their education in citizenship and personal and social development.

Community Action & Service opportunities are available both in and out of school. Some of the outdoor/environmental projects in the community that our pupils engage in:

  • Big Beach cleans to teach children about how we need to care for our oceans and the impact that plastic litter pollution has on wildlife and fish.
  • This goes from the very simplest of tasks – such as responsibility to recycle well, to only use what is needed, to engage with nature in a loving manner – all the way up to how to challenge those negative behaviours and social norms that promote destruction of nature.
  • Our Seed to Plate project whereby children regularly grow food from seed to invest into our whole school kitchen and menu.
  • Windlesham pupils have taken part in a range of environmental activities, including creating new ponds and orchards in local parks, participating in community service projects, and collaborating with the Booth Museum in preparation for a bird egg project with wildlife presenter Chris Packham and the BBC One Show.
  • Brighton Artists Open House gave us the chance to open up our school to the local community to share artwork and spread positive messages to locals around Brighton.
