Where Every Wave Carries a Lesson from Pre-Prep to Prep Education by the Shore
Being just a few minutes from the beach enables us to run a Beach School extending the classroom to our local environment for all our children. It offers an amazing opportunity to connect with the natural environment of the beach; pebbles, sand, water and tides, oozing mud as well as habitats for wild animals. Topics your children are learning in class are transported to the beach setting where learning while having fun continues (for. example, using maths to estimate the number of pebbles or calculate tides).
Child-led learning within the safe boundaries set at the start of each session, enables the child to learn to take calculated risks in an exciting setting. This helps each child to develop confidence and resilience and to begin to recognise the difference between a necessary risk and an unnecessary risk – a key life-long skill.
The beach club also enables us to teach beach safety. It also helps children to develop a passion to preserve and protect the coast for the future and to build a connection with their coastal environment which we are so fortunate enough to have on our doorstep here in Brighton.
