As the children move up into the Prep School, there are some noticeable changes to the experience for the children. There are a wide range of after school activities to choose from and with the school day finishing at 3:50pm, the children will experience more contact time with experienced, specialist teachers, many of whom will continue to teach them until the end of Year 6.
From Year 3 upwards, children will participate in a range of sports within the PE and Games curriculum including Netball, Football, Rugby, Hockey, Gymnastics, Swimming, Cricket and Athletics. Children will represent Windlesham in fixtures and competitions as part of the extensive sports fixtures which take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whilst there are new experiences, the children will notice a continuation of the foundations laid in the Pre-Prep such as Outdoor Learning and regular trips and outings to enhance the children’s learning. The academic syllabus is developed further, and the topics covered will be continuously referred to throughout the remainder of their time at Windlesham, building on and developing skills year on year in the progression to senior school transition.
Senior school preparation is supported with targeted reasoning and study skills lessons, focusing on a range of activities.
Children continue to develop their own identity and are encouraged to explore every avenue that is presented to them, including a wide variety of opportunities for personal development and leadership responsibilities such as Prefects, House Captains, School Council Representatives and Charity Committee Members. The children are encouraged to reflect on their experiences and understand the importance of the skills they are developing; upon moving to the top of the school, the Year 6 children can be elected as School Prefects and are all expected to take on a position of leadership or responsibility with a wide range of duties to help develop their confidence and enable them to practise a new range of skills.
