Learning Support and Special Educational Needs
Recognising that children learn in different ways and at different paces, we aim to support all our pupils to make the best possible progress. Our small classes and individual approach mean that we get to know our pupils very well. Teachers use this knowledge when planning lessons, using appropriate adaptation, scaffolding and differentiation to ensure that every child can access, engage and succeed in every lesson.
Working in partnership with parents, we aim to quickly identify any barriers to learning and where necessary, arranging provision to address this. We encourage parental input in all aspects of additional provision for our pupils and fast and effective dialogue between school and home are essential drivers in successful support.
Support in school has many guises. As well as in-class support and adapted teaching, we offer a range of interventions to pupils who may need additional support. The school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator works throughout the school managing this provision and monitoring the progress of the pupils. As well as working with pupils, teachers and parents, the SENDCO works with a range of external professionals, allowing us to access more specialist support. The school follows the statutory duties and best practice guidelines as outlined in the SEN Code of Practice 2014.
